Markets turn cautious as geopolitical uncertainty returns
Risk appetite is cooling as markets respond to conflicting U.S.- Iran headlines. The S&P 500 is trading around 7,775.72, down 0.13%, while the Dow is weaker at 53,551.97, down 0.34%. The Nasdaq is moving against the trend, up 0.15% at 26,767.95, while the VIX has jumped 5.12% to 14.98.
The sector picture is mixed. Technology is holding up with a 0.39% gain, while Industrials are leading at 1.32% and Healthcare is up 0.18%.

The takeaway: the broader market is not aggressively selling off, but volatility is picking up as traders become more selective and cautious.
Markets need to be prepared for both scenarios
Conflicting U.S.- Iran headlines are keeping the market on edge. Trump reportedly threatened Oman over any obstruction to U.S. efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war. At the same time, separate reports suggest the U.S. and Iran have reportedly agreed to extend their 60-day ceasefire.
That leaves markets with two very different possible outcomes.
A genuine extension of the ceasefire and progress toward reopening Hormuz could remove part of the geopolitical premium from crude, ease inflation concerns and provide relief to risk assets.
But a breakdown in the ceasefire, renewed attacks or further U.S.-Iran escalation could quickly push energy prices higher and trigger another risk-off move across equities and crypto.
WTI is trading around $81.94, continuing to hold above the key $81.68-$80.22 support zone.

The conflicting headlines mean oil can move sharply in either direction depending on whether markets begin pricing a sustained reopening or renewed disruption.
Technically, WTI remains constructive while it holds above $81.68. A break above $84.00 could open the way toward $87.75-$88.91. Losing $80.22 would weaken the structure and bring $79.08 into focus.
Metals remain elevated
Gold is trading around $4,422.91, holding above the $4,318 support zone after its strong recovery from the $4,000 area.

A sustained break above $4,500 would strengthen the bullish structure and put $4,601-$4,656 into focus. Below, $4,318 is the first major level to watch, followed by $4,251 and $4,197.
Silver is trading around $66.57, breaking above its recent consolidation and holding above $65.49-$65.04. A clean break above $66.54 could target $67.92-$68.25, while a loss of $65.49 would weaken the setup.

AI trade remains active: Nvidia backs massive OpenAI expansion
Nvidia has reportedly agreed to provide more than $100 billion in credit support for a massive OpenAI data-center project in Ohio. The arrangement could provide up to $105 billion of support for land, power and the facility shell, while Nvidia is also set to invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy.
OpenAI plans to lease as much as 8 gigawatts of AI computing capacity at the facility, with construction expected to extend through 2032.
The scale of the deal reinforces the enormous capital requirements behind the next phase of AI infrastructure and keeps Nvidia at the center of that spending cycle.
Technically, NVDA is trading around $227.80 and is holding above its key moving averages. A break above $227.65 keeps the upside structure intact, with $233.21-$234.52 as the next major resistance zone.

Both NVDA and OpenAI are available on Bitfunded.

Crypto remains selective rather than broadly risk-on.
Bitcoin is trading around $64,065, with the short-term structure improving after reclaiming $63,612. Price is now testing $64,179 resistance. A sustained breakout could expose $64,921-$65,096.

On the downside, $63,612 is the first key support, followed by $63,437 and $63,262.
Ethereum is trading around $1,909, holding above $1,904 after breaking higher from its recent consolidation.

A break above $1,916 could open the way toward $1,939-$1,945. Losing $1,904 would bring $1,892 into focus, followed by $1,868.
PUMP is one of the stronger technical setups, trading around $0.002973 after breaking above its recent range. The structure remains constructive above $0.002900-$0.002817, with $0.002974 acting as the immediate breakout level.

A sustained move above that level could target $0.003130-$0.003167.
Trump to host crypto industry meeting this week
Crypto traders also have another major event to watch on Wednesday, August 19, when President Trump is expected to attend a White House meeting with major cryptocurrency and prediction-market executives. Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Robinhood, Polymarket and Kalshi are among the companies expected to be represented.
The meeting comes as Washington continues to work through the regulatory framework for digital assets, while the CLARITY Act remains a key focus for the industry. The Senate’s progress on the legislation stalled ahead of the August recess, making regulatory clarity an important catalyst for the crypto market in the weeks ahead.

The market is entering a period where headline risk matters just as much as technical structure.
